Abstract:

We use a notion of independence satisfying all properties of independence in stable theories except for local character in order to show that the automorphism groups of certain generalized polygons are topologically simple. This independence notion arises from having `stationary amalgamation' on finitely generated substructures and may be applicable in many Fraïssé-Hrushovski constructions.
