Postdoctoral Training in
Model Theory and Applications
MODNET funding is available for postdoctoral positions in Model
Theory and Applications, mostly of 1 year duration. The funding will pay
a salary at a standard rate determined by the European Commission, and
includes generous allowances for travel, relocation, and for
participation in the training and research activities of the
Network. Appointed researchers are expected to be based at the indicated
locations but most are also expected to spend up to 30 percent of their
time visiting other insitutions associated with the Network. Enquiries
about these positions can be addressed to the Network Co-ordinator
(David Evans, d.evans_at_uea.ac.uk), or the Chair of the Network
Appointments Committee (Elisabeth Bouscaren,
modnetjobs_at_logique.jussieu.fr).
Eligibility Criteria:
The European Commission has laid down precise rules about who is
eligible for these positions. A guiding principle is that researchers
should have to move from the country where they are currently studying,
and will not be appointed in there own country. In particular:
- Those appointed will have at least 4 but no more than 10 years of
research experience since gaining a university degree giving them
access to doctoral studies in the country in which the degree was
obtained.
- An appointment cannot be made in the candidate's own country.
- At most 30 percent of those appointed can be from outside the EU and
associated states.
It should be noted that there are exceptions to these rules and a more
extensive summary can be found
here. Full details can be found in the
Marie Curie Research Training Network Handbook.
How to apply:
Potential candidates are encouraged to make initial inquiries to the
named contact at the university to which they are considering applying,
or to the Chair of the Appointments Committee (Elisabeth Bouscaren:
modnetjobs_at_logique.jussieu.fr), or to the Co-ordinator of MODNET
(David Evans: d.evans_at_uea.ac.uk).
Applications should be sent electronically (as .pdf, .ps, or .dvi files)
to the Chair of the Appointments Committee (Elisabeth Bouscaren:
modnetjobs_at_logique.jussieu.fr), and will be acknowledged by e-mail,
usually within 7 working days.
Applications will be considered by the MODNET Appointments Committee
and by the candidate's preferred universities.
Applications should include:
- A detailed curriculum vitae containing the candidate's academic
record to date and a list of publications
- A description of the candidate's past research (maximum two pages)
- A description of the proposed research and how it relates to the research objectives of the Network (maximum 4 pages)
- A statement of which positions the candidate wishes to apply for,
together with justification of eligibility for the positions.
- Details of any secondments the candidate would wish to make.
- The names and addresses (postal and electronic) of three people
willing to write a letter of recommendation for the candidate.
Host universities may also require candidates to provide additional
documentation and complete further application forms.
Conditions of appointment:
All appointed researchers will participate fully in the training and
research events organised by MODNET. They will undertake an agreed
programme of research, and any necessary language and skills training
(such as training in lecturing) required by the Network Appointments
Committee. To benefit from the wide expertise available in the Network,
it is expected that most appointed researchers will have at least one
period of secondment to another university.
